Unit 9 - Condensation and Hydrolysis Reactions
Objectives:
  • Be able to predict the reaction of the condensation of two alcohols and be able to recognize and name the ether that forms.
  • Be able to predict the condensation reactions that lead to the formation of esters, amides and phosphoesters.
  • Be able to name esters and amides.
  • Be able to predict the polymers that will form from the condensation of monomers.
  • Be able to predict to predict the products of the hydrolysis of ethers, esters, amides and phosphesters.
  • Be able to predict the effects of pH on the products that form from hydrolysis reactions.
  • Be able to predict the products of the saponification reaction.
  • Be able to describe the structure of ATP and to discuss the use of this molecule for storing and releasing chemical energy.
