Course Content - Unit Materials
- Objectives:
-
- Be able to write chemical reaction equations to illustrate what happens when organic acids are placed in water or react with bases.
- Be able to compare the physical properties of carboxylic acids with those their corresponding carboxylate salts.
- Be able to predict the products of the decarboxation of α and β keto acids
- Be able to predict the products of an oxidative decarboxylation of an α-keto acid and be able to identify the coenzymes involved when these reactions are carried out in living systems.
- Be able to draw and name the structures of simple amines and be able to predict their physical properties relative to other function groups.
- Be able to write the chemical reaction equations to illustrate what happes when organic mines are placed in water or react with acids
- Be able to draw the ionic forms of organic acids and bases that predominate under physiological conditions (pH 7)
