Course Content - Unit Materials
- Objectives:
-
- Understand kinetic energy and potential energy and the relationshihp between thermal energy and temperature.
- Understand the relationship between the bulk properties of matter and the balance between the kinetic energy of the particles making up the matter and the attractive interactions (potential energy) between the particles.
- Understand how melting point and boiling point can be used to gauge the relative strength of the attractive interactions between molecules.
- Be able to analyze a molecule structure for the types of intactions it can have with itself and other molecules.
- Be able to predict the relative solubility of substance in water.
- Be able to identify the hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions of a molecule.
- Be able to use equivalents to describe the concentration of an ionic solution.
