- Objectives:

- Be able to predict the products of the reaction of water with an alkene
- Be able to describe how enzymes are able to produce a single product from a reaction that can product more than one product.
- Be able to create IUPAC names for alcohols from their structural formulas and be able to create structural formulas for alcohols from their IUPAC names.
- Be able to predict the relative physcial properties, such as boiling points, melting points and solubilities in water, from an alcohol's structural formula.
- Be able to assess whether a molecule is chiral or not.
- Be able to predict the products of a dehydration reaction involving an alcohol.
- Be able to identify phenols and thiol from their structures and to compare their properties to alcohols and hydrocarbons.
