Selecting all or part of a painted image

Before you can move, modify, or delete an existing image in a painting frame or document, you must select it.

Selecting an image within a rectangular area

To select a rectangular portion of an image:
1 Click the selection rectangle in the Tools window:
2 Position the crosshair pointer at one corner of the area you want to select, then drag to enclose the desired area.

Selecting an irregular image

    To select an irregular image:
1 Select the lasso in the Tools window:

2 Position the lasso beside the image you want to select, then draw a loop around the image.

Selecting everything in the painting area

To select the entire painting area, including all blank space:
Double-click the selection rectangle, or choose Select All from the Edit menu.

To select all painted elements in the painting area but not the blank space between them:
    Double-click the lasso.

Selecting adjacent pixels of the same color

To select all adjacent pixels of the same color:
1 Click the magic wand in the Tools window:
2 Click the area you want to select.
Tip: For more precision, zoom in before clicking.

    If you can't select something:
If the item is in a painting frame, make sure you enter the frame to edit it. If you see the Arrange menu and not the Transform menu, you are in a drawing document and must use a different method for selecting items. (Because there are significant differences between painting and drawing features, it is important to choose whether to paint or draw before you begin creating something.)
