Selecting objects
Before you can move, modify, or delete objects, you must select them. A selected object displays one or more handles for moving or manipulating the object. A selected object remains selected until you select a different object or deselect it by clicking outside of it.
Select objects with the arrow in the Tools window:
Selecting an object
To select a single object:
|
Click anywhere on the object. (For transparent objects, click the border.) |
If you can't select something:
If you see the Transform menu and not the Arrange menu, you are in a painting document or frame and must use a different method for selecting items. (Because there are significant differences between painting and drawing features, it is important to choose whether to paint or draw before you begin creating something.)
If you can't select an object in a spreadsheet frame:
Open the frame as a separate window and select the object with the arrow in the Tools window.
Selecting multiple objects
To select several objects one at a time:
|
Hold down the Shift key as you click the objects. |
To select several objects located together:
|
Starting outside the objects, drag across the objects until all of them are enclosed within the selection rectangle. |
Tip: To select objects that are partially enclosed within the selection rectangle, hold down the Command key while you drag.
To select all objects in a document:
|
Choose Select All from the Edit menu. |
To select all objects of a certain type:
1 |
Select the tool used to create the objects. |
2 |
Choose Select All from the Edit menu. |
|
Note: Bezier shapes, freehand shapes, and all polygons are considered the same type of object. |
Deselecting objects
To deselect objects:
|
Click anywhere outside the selected object or objects. |
To deselect one object in a multiple selection:
|
Hold down the Shift key as you click the object. (For transparent objects, click the border.) |
If you can't deselect an object in a multiple selection:
Make sure that you are not clicking a handle (the small boxes on the border of a selected object).
