Creating a Labels layout

You can create a layout formatted to print on more than 100 different Avery labels. You can also create labels with your own dimensions.

Note: Define the fields and enter the data before you create the layout.

Tip: The easiest way to create a Labels layout is to choose New Label Layout from the Layout menu. Using the information you enter, AppleWorks creates a layout formatted to print label sheets on the printer you specify.

Creating the layout

    To create a Labels layout:
1 Choose New Layout from the Layout menu or from the layout pop-up menu on the left side of the document window (except in Browse mode).
2 Type a name for the layout.
    3 For Type, select Labels.
4 If you're using Avery labels, choose the number of the Avery label from the pop-up menu. Otherwise, choose Custom. Then click OK.
5 If you chose Custom, specify the number of labels across the page and the horizontal and vertical dimensions of your labels. Then click OK.
Note: Include the space between labels in your horizontal and vertical measurements. In other words, the horizontal measurement is the distance from the left edge of one label to the left edge of the next; the vertical measurement is from the top of one label to the top of the next.
6 From the Field List, select each field you want to include on the label, then click Move. The order in which you move fields is the order in which they appear on the label.
Tip: You can also double-click a field name to move it.
7 If necessary, choose Layout from the Layout menu and arrange the fields or otherwise customize the layout.

Adjusting the layout

To adjust the arrangement of labels on the page:
1 Choose Edit Layouts from the Layout menu or from the layout pop-up menu.
2 Select the label layout you want to adjust, and click Modify.
3 Make changes to the number of columns and the direction the labels flow ("Across first" or "Down first").

To adjust the space between rows of labels:
1 If you're not already in Layout mode, choose Layout from the Layout menu.
2 Choose a layout from the Layout menu.
3 Position the pointer on the bottom boundary of the layout part. The pointer changes to a double arrow.
4 Drag the boundary line to resize the part.
Tip: The graphics ruler can help you resize the body part to accurately match the size of your labels.
