Copying or duplicating painted images

The technique you use to copy an image depends on where you want to place the copy. When the copy will be near the original, duplicating is generally easier. When the copy will be far from the original or in another document, copying and pasting is generally easier.

    To duplicate an image:
1 Select the image or the part of the image you want to copy.
2 Choose Duplicate from the Edit menu.
The copy appears on top of the original, slightly offset.
3 Drag the copy to the desired location.

Tip: You can quickly duplicate a selected image by holding down the Option key while you drag the image.

To copy and paste an image:
1 Select the image or the part of the image you want to copy.
2 Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
3 If you're pasting the image into another document, click the document to make it active.
4 Choose Paste from the Edit menu.
The copy appears in the middle of the document.
5 Drag the copy to the desired location.

Tip: To copy an object quickly to another document or to the Mac OS Finder desktop, drag the object.

    If you can't select something:
If the item is in a painting frame, make sure you enter the frame to edit it. If you see the Arrange menu and not the Transform menu, you are in a drawing document and must use a different method for selecting items. (Because there are significant differences between painting and drawing features, it is important to choose whether to paint or draw before you begin creating something.)
