Resizing objects

You can resize an object by dragging its handles, scaling it by a certain percentage, or typing exact dimensions. You can also resize several objects at once.

Resizing an object

To resize an object by dragging:
Select the object and drag one of its handles:
    Object handles
Tip: To maintain the object's proportions, hold down the Shift key as you drag diagonally.
Note: Objects placed inline with text have only one handle (in the lower-left corner). To see fewer handles on other objects, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, then choose General from the submenu. Under Object Selection, select the box with four handles.

    To resize objects by scaling:
1 Select one or more objects.
2 Choose Scale By Percent from the Arrange menu.
3 Type a percentage from 25 to 400 in one or both text boxes. For example, if you type 30 in the lower box, the object width becomes 30 percent of its current size when you click OK.
Tip: To maintain the object's proportions, type the same percentage in both boxes.

To resize an object by specifying dimensions:
    1 Select an object.
2 Choose Object Size from the Options menu.
3 Specify new dimensions in the width and height boxes:
    Width
    Height
4 To apply the new dimensions, press the Tab key or close the Object Size dialog box.
Tip: To change the unit of measurement used in the Object Size window, choose Rulers from the Format menu, then choose Ruler Settings from the submenu. Under Unit, click a new unit of measurement.
Note: The other boxes in the Object Size window allow you to move an object to a precise location.

To resize several objects at once:
Select the objects and drag one of the handles.
Tip: To maintain the objects' proportions, hold down the Shift key as you drag diagonally.

If you can't resize an item with the methods described above:
If you see the Transform menu and not the Arrange menu, you are in a painting document or frame and must use a different method for resizing items. (Because there are significant differences between painting and drawing features, it is important to choose whether to paint or draw before you begin creating something.)

Restoring graphics to their original size

If you resize or rescale a graphic in most graphic formats, you can restore it to its original size.

To restore a graphic to its original size:
    1 Select the graphic.
2 Choose Picture Info from the Edit menu.
If you don't see the Picture Info command, the selected item is not in a format that allows you to restore its original size.
3 Click Use Picture Bounds, then click OK.
