Adding a Smart Object to the Layout Editor
GoLive lets you add a Smart Object to a Web layout by simply dragging a source file into the Layout Editor. You can also specify the source file in the Inspector.
To add a Smart Object to your Web page: - Do one of the following:
- Drag a Photoshop, Illustrator, LiveMotion, PDF, or EPS file to the Layout Editor.
- Choose the Smart set
in the Objects palette, then drag a Smart Object icon for the type of Smart Object you're creating (Photoshop, Illustrator, LiveMotion, or Generic) from the Smart set in the Objects palette to the Layout Editor.
Note: The Smart Generic object is used for source files the following formats: BMP, PICT for Mac OS only, PCX, Pixar, Amiga IFF, TIFF, TARGA, PDF, EPS, JPEG (for example, from a digital camera), and PNG. - Double-click a Smart Object icon in the Smart set
in the Objects palette. - Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) anywhere in the Layout Editor, then choose Insert Object > Smart and choose Smart Photoshop, Smart Illustrator, or Smart LiveMotion.
Note: The Smart set in the Objects palette and the context menu will not display a LiveMotion Smart object icon if LiveMotion is not installed on your computer. - Select the Smart Object placeholder in the Layout editor, and in the Smart Images Inspector, specify a file for the image.
Depending on whether you've added an Illustrator, Photoshop, or LiveMotion file, GoLive will either start Save For Web, prompt you to choose an optimization format, or start the native source file application to generate the optimized file. For the remaining procedures of each image type, see Adding a Smart Photoshop object, Adding Illustrator artwork, and Adding LiveMotion files. If you decide later that you don't want the Smart Object functionality for an image, GoLive can convert a Smart Object to a regular object. By selecting the Smart Object in the Layout Editor and opening the context menu, you can choose the Convert to Regular command to break the live connection between the target and source files. The command also removes all GoLive specific HTML code from the Smart Object and removes the settings data from the target file. (See Additional image options.)
