You can create a text, spreadsheet, painting, or table frame within a document of a different type. For example, you can create a spreadsheet within a text document.
To create a frame:
1 |
If the Tools window is not open, choose Show Tools from the Window menu, or click the toolbox icon at the bottom of the active document: |
2 |
Select a frame tool:

3 |
Drag to draw the frame. If you're creating a frame of the same type as the document (for example, a text frame in a word-processing document), hold down the Option key while you drag. |
Tip: You can also drag and drop a frame tool from the Tools window to create a default-size frame. |
Exceptions for creating frames:
In a database, you can create frames only in Layout mode. |
You cannot create a paint frame in a paint document. |
IMPORTANT: When you deselect a frame in a painting document, you can no longer edit the frame. The frame becomes part of the painting and therefore you cannot reselect it as a frame. You can still edit that portion of the painting with the painting tools, however.
After you create a frame:
When you select the frame, the menus change to the Drawing menus so that you can do things like use the Arrange commands to position the frame on the page. |
When you enter a frame by double-clicking (or by clicking once if the frame is already selected), the menus and tools change to those you need for that type of frame. |
