Working with variables in an Illustrator SVG file

You can control the text content and visibility variable in an SVG file with variables.

To set variables in an Illustrator SVG file:

  1. Add an Illustrator SVG file with variables to the Layout Editor. The Variable Settings dialog box opens.
  2. In the Variable Settings dialog box, do any of the following:
    • Select the Use option for a text variable and enter text in the text box to change the original text.
    • Select the Use option for an object, then choose from the menu to specify whether an object is visible or invisible in the target file.
    • Don't select the Use option for variables you wish to leave as is.

Important: If you select the Use option for a text variable and don't enter any text, the original text is deleted. GoLive will treat the empty text box as the new value of the text variable.

  3. Click OK.
  4. Note: Even though fonts can be embedded in an SVG file, for best results when substituting text, the used fonts must be installed on the system.
