Using smart objects to optimize images for the WebGoLive works with other Adobe programs so that when you drag a Photoshop, Illustrator, or LiveMotion file from the site window into your page layout, GoLive automatically establishes a smart object link to the source file and lets you edit it in the originating application. You don't need to preoptimize these images before bringing them into GoLive--GoLive opens the Save for Web dialog box, lets you optimize the image in a Web image format, and then, whenever you modify the original source image, GoLive automatically reoptimizes the Web image. Sliced images are automatically placed in a table--each slice Web optimized--and the HTML table and files for Web images are added to your site. (See Working with a sliced Photoshop image and see Working with a sliced Illustrator SVG image.) When you use smart objects on your pages, resizing a Web image won't affect the source image's file size or resolution--so you can have multiple images of various sizes on your page all referring to the same source image. You can also use variables with the source image so you can change a single aspect of the image (such as type color) for each Web image on the page without actually changing the source image. If you want to modify a source image, you can double-click the smart object and GoLive opens the image in the application it was created in. (See Adding images to a Web page using Smart Objects.) |
