Working with a sliced Illustrator SVG image

Another important feature of using a Smart Illustrator object is that GoLive can now work with slices established in Illustrator similar to Photoshop. You can use a sliced SVG image for building a Web page by adding such objects as a navigation bar or buttons. Each slice can link to a URL and specify the target frame the URL opens in. Slices can also have different mattes (background colors).

As with a sliced Photoshop image, you can assign a link and update a sliced SVG image. (See Working with slices during optimization.)

Note: GoLive only recognizes slices in an Illustrator image saved as SVG.

To add a sliced Illustrator SVG image to a Web page:

  1. Add a sliced SVG-format Smart Illustrator object to your page. For more information about adding a Smart Object to a Web page, see Adding a Smart Object to the Layout Editor.
  2. Select a destination where you want to save the target data file (image_name.data), and click Save.
  3. In the Save For Web dialog box, select a predefined optimization setting from the Settings pop-up menu or create your own using the available pop-up menus. For more information about using Save For Web with a sliced image, see Optimizing images for the Web and Working with slices during optimization.
  4. You can specify a setting for the slices by using the slice select tool Slice select tool to select a slice, and then select an optimization. Since the auto slices within an image are linked to each other, one setting applies to all the slices. User slices can have individual settings. For more information about working with slices in the Save For Web dialog box, see Applying optimization settings.

You can also specify an image size for the sliced image using the Image Size palette. (See Using the Image Size palette.)

  5. Click Save.
