Using Ethernet to transfer files

To transfer files between computers that are not on a network, you can temporarily connect them using an Ethernet crossover cable (which creates a two-node network), then use file sharing to move the files.

Tip: You can create a small network using an Ethernet hub if you think you might add more computers or shared devices in the future.

If one of the computers doesn't have Ethernet:
To connect a Macintosh with PCI slots but no Ethernet port, install an Ethernet card in one of the PCI slots.
To connect a Macintosh that has a NuBus slot but no Ethernet port, install a NuBus-based Ethernet card in the slot.
To connect a Macintosh with a serial port or to connect a computer with thin coaxial (10Base-2) Ethernet, purchase a network adapter from your Apple-authorized dealer.
