Sharing your files with other users

To make your files available to others on an AppleTalk or TCP/IP network using network file sharing:
1 Turn on file sharing using the File Sharing control panel.
Open the File Sharing control panel for me.
2 If you want only certain users to have access, identify these users or groups of users using the Users & Groups tab of the File Sharing control panel.
Help me specify users and groups.
3 Share the folder or volume that contains the files you want to make available using the Sharing section of the folder's Info window (open the File menu and choose Get Info).
    Help me share a file.
4 Set access privileges for the folder or volume using the Sharing section of the folder's Info window.
    Help me set access privileges.

You can also use Personal Web Sharing to share your files on an intranet or the Internet.

If you can't turn on file sharing:
Enter new information in the Network Identity section of the File Sharing control panel.
Drag the File Sharing folder out of the Preferences folder (inside the System Folder) then restart the computer.
    Reset PRAM.
Drag the Users & Groups Data File out of the Preferences folder (inside the System Folder), then restart the computer.
    Reinstall the system software.

If you can't share a folder or volume:
Make sure you have at least 1 MB of space available on your hard disk.
Floppy disks can't be shared, and some other removable storage devices may not be compatible with file sharing. Check the documentation that came with the device for more information.
Some disk-formatting programs don't work with file sharing. If you use such a program, check its documentation for more information.

Sharing applications

You can share application programs over the network by turning on the Program Linking option in the File Sharing control panel. Programs you share must be designed for use on a network by multiple users.
