Connecting to an Ethernet network

To connect your computer to a twisted-pair Ethernet network:
1 Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer.
    Ethernet port and icon
2 Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet wall outlet or open connector on an Ethernet hub.

If the cable does not fit into the port:
Make sure that you are not trying to connect the Ethernet cable to the internal modem port. The connectors look alike.
Make sure you are using the right cable. You may need to obtain an adapter that converts RJ-45 twisted-pair Ethernet to the type your network uses. Contact your network administrator for more information.
