Choosing the right Ethernet cable

Connecting to a twisted-pair Ethernet network requires a cable with an RJ-45 connector.

The type of cable you use depends on whether you want to connect to a 10Base-T or 100Base-TX Ethernet network:
To connect to a 10Base-T network, use category 3 or category 5 cable.
To connect to a 100Base-T network, use category 5 cable.

Tip: You can often find a cable's name and type printed on the cable near each connector.
