Connecting USB devices to your computer

You can connect a USB device to your computer while the computer is turned on.

WARNING: Do not plug or unplug a USB device, especially a storage device, while the device is in use, or you could damage your files.

To connect a USB device to your computer:
1 If necessary, connect the USB device to a power source.
2 If your USB device does not have an attached USB cable, plug the Type B USB connector on a USB cable into a corresponding USB port on the device.
3 Plug the other end of the USB cable into an open USB port on your computer. (Look in the print documentation that came with your computer to find the location of the USB ports.)

If the device you want to connect doesn't have a USB port:
You may be able to connect non-USB devices using a USB adapter.

If your computer doesn't have a free USB port:
Add a USB hub and attach other USB devices to the ports on the hub.
Unplug a device you're not using to free a port.

If a USB device doesn't work:
    See the USB troubleshooting solutions.
