USB ports, connectors, and cables
USB ports and connectors are either Type A or Type B. A standard USB cable has a Type A connector on one end and a Type B connector on the other. For best performance, use standard cables. Type A ports and connectors are rectangular and connect a device to a Type A USB port on a computer or a hub.
Type B ports and connectors are square and connect a USB cable to a USB device.
Some devices, such as the Apple USB keyboard, have an attached (or "captive") cable, so there is only one free end which has a Type A connector. Many devices come with a standard USB cable. However, if you need to buy a USB cable, check an electronics store or your Apple-authorized dealer or retailer.
