Creating an outline

    To create an outline:
1 Press the Return key to start a new paragraph, or click in a topic with the I-beam pointer or select more than one topic.
2 Choose Label Style from the Outline menu, then choose an outline style from the submenu:
Diamond inserts a diamond for the paragraph (topic) label. If the topic has subtopics, the diamond is filled; otherwise it's open.
Harvard numbers topics with uppercase and lowercase Roman numerals, uppercase and lowercase letters, and Arabic numerals (for example, I, II, A, B, 1, 2, a, b, and so on).
Leader inserts a "-" for the topic label. If the topic has subtopics, the label is a "+".
Legal uses Arabic numerals and decimals (for example, 1, 2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.2, and so on).
Note: Only these four topic label styles use different labels to show topic hierarchy. Letter Caps (uppercase letters), Letter (lowercase letters), Numeric (Arabic numerals), Roman Caps (uppercase Roman numerals), and Roman (lowercase Roman numerals) topic label styles show order but not hierarchy. Bullet and Checkbox reflect neither.
    3 Enter new outline topics:
To enter a new topic at the current outline level, press Return, or choose New Topic from the Outline menu.
To enter a new subtopic at the next lower level of the outline, choose New Topic Right from the Outline menu.
To enter a new topic at the next higher level of the outline, choose New Topic Left from the Outline menu.
After you enter topics, you can reorder and change the levels of existing topics.
Tip: To create an unlabeled or unnumbered paragraph within an outline, press Shift-Return.
