Changing pen colors and other attributes
To change lines or object borders, use the Tools window to modify the pen color, pattern, and style.
IMPORTANT: In a painting frame or document, set colors and other attributes before you paint, because changing the colors and attributes of an existing image can be difficult.
Changing the pen color, pattern, or style
To change the pen (line) color, pattern, line weight, or arrow style:
1 |
If you're working with objects in a drawing rather than images in a painting, decide whether you want to change pen attributes for an existing object or a new one. |
|
|
To change the pen color or attribute of an existing object, select the object. |
|
To set default pen colors or attributes before drawing a new object, deselect all objects by clicking outside any selected areas or pressing Enter. |
|
2 |
If the Tools window is not open, choose Show Tools from the Window menu, or click the toolbox icon at the bottom of the active document: |
3 |
Click the Pen formatting button: |
4 |
Click the desired palette button and select a color, pattern, or line weight, or arrow style:
A |

B |
Pattern |
C |

D |
Arrow Style |
|
|
|
Note: For colors, you can select from several palettes by using the Palette pop-up menu in the Accents window. But you can't use more than one palette in a document. (If you change to another palette, all the colors you've already used in the document will be converted to the new palette as well.) |
|
After you choose one pen characteristic, you can choose another by repeating step 4. |
If the Pen formatting button won't update:
The Pen formatting button does not change when an object or image is selected. It changes only if you change the default pen attributes. To change the default pen attributes, deselect all items by clicking outside the items or pressing Enter. Then try steps 3 through 5 again.
Removing the border (outline) around an object
You can remove the border around an object (for example, the outline around a frame). If the object is a shape with no fill attributes, however, removing the border will make the object seem to disappear.
To remove the border (outline) around an object:
1 |
Select the object. |
2 |
If the Tools window is not open, choose Show Tools from the Window menu, or click the toolbox icon at the bottom of the active document: |
3 |
Click the Pen button: |
4 |
Click the Line Weight palette button: |
5 |
In the Line Weight pop-up palette, select None. |
You can change pen colors and other attributes using the Accents window.
