You can permanently delete an object with the Delete key, or use Cut to place it on the Clipboard for pasting elsewhere.
To delete an object:

Select the object and press the Delete key, or choose Clear from the Edit menu. |
To delete all objects in a document:

Choose Select All from the Edit menu and press the Delete key, or choose Clear from the Edit menu. |
To delete an object and place it on the Clipboard for pasting elsewhere:

Select the object and choose Cut from the Edit menu. |
If you delete an object by mistake:
Choose Undo Clear from the Edit menu to restore it. (This technique works only on the last action you performed.)
If you can't select something:
If you see the Transform menu and not the Arrange menu, you are in a painting document or frame and must use a different method for deleting items. (Because there are significant differences between painting and drawing features, it is important to choose whether to paint or draw before you begin creating something.)
