Adding page numbers, date, and time

    You can include automatic page numbers and the current or auto-updating date and time in word-processing documents or text frames.

Inserting page numbers

    To insert page numbers into a word-processing document or text frame:
    1 Click with the I-beam pointer where you want to insert the page number.
    If you want page numbers to appear on every page, first add a header or footer, then click in the header or footer.
    2 Choose Insert Page # from the Edit menu.  
    Tip: To insert a non-changing page number, press Option while you choose Insert Page #.
    3 Select a page- or section-numbering option.
    Use the Document Page Count (or Section Page Count, if your document contains sections) to include a total page count, for example, "1 of 10," "2 of 10," and so on.
    4 Choose a numbering format from the Representation pop-up menu.

Setting the starting page number

    To set the starting page number in a document without sections:
    1 Choose Document from the Format menu.
    2 Type a page number in the Start at Page text box.

    To set the starting page number in a word-processing document divided into sections:
    1 Click with the I-beam pointer in the section you want to renumber.
    2 Choose Section from the Format menu.
    3 Choose a page type from from the Start Section pop-up menu.
    4 Click Restart Page Number and type a number in the text box that appears.

Inserting the date or time

    To insert the date or time in a word-processing document or text frame:
    1 Click with the I-beam pointer where you want to insert the date or time.
    2 Do one of the following:  
      To insert   Do this  
    The current date (which won't change) Choose Insert Date from the Edit menu, then Fixed from the submenu.

    An auto-updating date (which changes every time you open the document) Choose Insert Date from the Edit menu, then Auto-updating from the submenu.

    The current time (which won't change) Choose Insert Time from the Edit menu, then Fixed from the submenu.

    An auto-updating time (which changes every time you open the document) Choose Insert Time from the Edit menu, then Auto-updating from the submenu.
