About Files preferences

Files preferences affect several overall AppleWorks settings.

Note: Each Files preference affects all documents.

      Option   Function
Remember Translator Automatically sets the file format to the original format in the Save dialog box. This helps you save imported documents in their original format. (You can still save the file in any supported format.)

Create Custom Icon For a painting or drawing document, changes the document icon to a miniature representation of the contents.

[v6.0] Suffix Appends "[v6.0]" to the name of a new document. This helps you avoid replacing a document created with a previous version of AppleWorks or ClarisWorks.

.cwk Suffix Adds the extension ".cwk" (or ".cws" for template files) to the end of a filename when saving a document. This makes it possible to exchange documents between Mac OS and Windows.

Auto-Save Automatically saves your document at the specified interval, if you aren't actively working in the document. If you are working in the document, AppleWorks auto-saves when you pause.

Recent Items Displays a Recent Items tab in Starting Points and lists recently opened documents in the Open Recent submenu in the File menu. (Also allows you to specify a maximum number of items to be displayed in the Open Recent submenu.)

Old Version Alert Displays a warning when you open a document saved using a previous version of AppleWorks or ClarisWorks. (If you save the document, you won't be able to reopen it in the previous version of the program.)
