The alert sound is the sound the computer makes when it wants your attention. If you have a sound file, such as one that you've recorded or downloaded from the Internet, you can also use it as your alert sound.
To use a sound file as an alert sound:

Make sure the sound file is in standard Macintosh sound format. |

Macintosh sound files have the icon shown below and play when you double-click them. If the file is in another format, use a utility to convert it to Macintosh sound format. |

Open the Sound control panel. |

Click the Alerts tab. |

Drag the sound file into the alert sound list. |

Select the sound you added as your new alert sound. |
Tip: You can drag an alert sound from the alert sound list to place a copy of the sound file on your computer hard disk.
