Recording your own alert sound

You can record an alert sound using a microphone or another type of sound input device.

    To record an alert sound:
1 Open the Sound control panel.
Open the Sound control panel for me.
2 Click the Input tab and select the input device you want to use, such as your built-in microphone.
    3 Click the Alerts tab.
    4 Click New Sound.
    A recording window appears.
5 Record and save your sound.

Tip: To hear your new alert sound, click it in the list or adjust the alert volume and the sound plays at the new volume.

If you can't record a sound:
Make sure the sound input port or device you want to record from is selected in the Input section of the Sound control panel. Check that the input gain setting is turned up.
If you can't record from a microphone, another sound input program may be active. Try quitting or turning off other programs, such as speech recognition.
If you can't record from the monitor's built-in microphone, make sure the monitor's speakers are muted, and that the microphone is turned on and selected in the Input section of the Sound control panel.
If you can't record from a CD, start the CD playing before you click the New Sound button in the Alerts section of the Sound control panel.
