The alert sound is the sound the computer makes when it wants your attention.
To change the alert sound:

Open the Sound control panel.
Open the Sound control panel for me.

Click the Alerts tab.

Select the alert sound you want from the list.
If you can't change the volume of the alert sound:
Make sure that the Main Volume control in the Sound control panel is not muted or set too low. To check the speaker volume, click the Speakers tab.
