Selecting a keyboard layout

To select keyboard layouts for installed script systems and customize the Keyboard menu, use the Keyboard control panel.

Open the Keyboard control panel for me.

A keyboard layout matches characters in a script system to the keys on your keyboard. If you have selected more than one keyboard layout, the layouts available for you to use appear in the Keyboard menu at the right side of the menu bar.

To add or remove a keyboard layout in the Keyboard menu:
1 Open the Script pop-up menu and choose an installed script system.
European languages such as English or French use the Roman script system.
Languages that use non-Roman characters (such as Japanese or Arabic) have their own script systems.
2 Select one or more keyboard layouts.
At least one keyboard layout must be selected for each installed script system.
Note: You see a Keyboard menu in your menu bar only if you have selected more than one layout or installed additional script systems.

To switch between available keyboard layouts:
Open the Keyboard menu and choose a different keyboard layout.
If the layout you want isn't in the menu, you need to select it in the Keyboard control panel.

Tip: To get more help using the Keyboard control panel, open the Help menu and choose Show Balloons. Then, point to the feature or menu item you're interested in.
