Resizing tables and table cells

Resizing tables

You can make a table larger or smaller by dragging a handle (the small black squares that appear around the edges of a table when it is selected).

    To resize a table:
    1 Select the table.
2 Click a handle and drag.
Note: Inline tables have only one handle.

Note: You can also add or delete cells.

Resizing table cells by dragging

To resize columns or rows while keeping the size of the overall table the same:
1 Double-click to select a line in the column or row.
    2 Drag the selected line.
The adjacent column or row resizes to keep the size of the overall table the same.

To resize columns or rows without resizing adjacent cells:
1 Double-click to select a line in the column or row.
2 Press the Command key while you drag the selected line.
The adjacent column or row is not resized, but the overall table grows or shrinks to accommodate the new size.

    To resize individual cells:
1 Enter the table by double-clicking any cell. (If the table frame is already selected, you can click once to enter it.)
2 Hold down the Option key and click to select a border of the cell you want to resize.
3 Drag the selected line to resize the cell.

Note: You can also resize cells by subdividing or merging them.

Resizing table cells into equal dimensions

To resize cells so that they are of equal size:
1 Select the cells that you want to be of equal size.
2 Choose Distribute Columns Evenly or Distribute Rows Evenly from the Table menu.
