Identifying items on the screen

When working with AppleWorks, there are several ways to get information about what a control, button, or tool on the screen does.

Identifying items in the Button Bar or the Tools window

AppleWorks uses tooltips to display the names of buttons in the Button Bar and tools in the Tools window.

To see what a button or tool does, position the pointer over it until a tooltip appears.

To show or hide tooltips for buttons in the Button Bar:
1 Choose Preferences from the Edit menu, then choose Button Bar from the submenu.
2 Select or deselect "Show tooltips."

Identifying other items on the screen

To identify other items on the screen, use Balloon Help:
1 Choose Show Balloons from the Help menu.
2 Position the pointer over the item you want to identify.
3 When you're finished using Balloon Help, choose Hide Balloons from the Help menu.
