Creating a Smart rollover object

There are many benefits to creating a Smart rollover rather than a Lean rollover. (See About creating rollovers in GoLive.)

To create a Smart rollover object:

  1. Drag the Rollover icon from the Smart set Smart set button in the Objects Palette to your page.
  2. In the Rollover Inspector, type a unique identifier in the Name text box.
  3. Note: JavaScript identifies the objects on a page by unique IDs. To assure that the JavaScript rollover functions properly, GoLive gives your rollover a unique name. You can always rename the rollover, but be careful to use a name that the JavaScript will recognize.

  4. Select the Normal icon, and specify a file for the Normal rollover image.
  5. GoLive automatically searches for Over and Down images based on the Rollover Settings naming conventions. When GoLive finds the images, it links the Over and Down states of the rollover object to the Over and Down images. The images are displayed as thumbnails in the Rollover Inspector.

Note: You can manually assign the Over and Down images via the options available in the Rollover Inspector. If the Over and Down images are not available immediately, you can restart the automatic search process when the images do become available. To manually restart the search for Over and Down images, choose the Detect Rollover Images command from the top right palette menu of the Rollover Inspector.

  6. In the Rollover Inspector, specify a file for the link destination.
  7. It's recommended that you specify Alt Text and Message text (to be displayed at the bottom of the browser window when the mouse rolls over or clicks the rollover object). (See Additional image options.)
  8. You can also specify the Width, Height, HSpace, and VSpace for the Smart rollover object.
  9. Tip iconIf you're using Smart rollovers, you can also assign the three rollover images by dragging images into the Layout Editor. First drag the Normal image from the site window or a folder to the Rollover icon in the document window. Then Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) a second image to assign the Over image. Shift-drag to assign the Down image. It's recommended that images be the same size.
