Visually design and author pages

GoLive visual page design tools make it easy to produce pages without working with code. At the same time, GoLive integrates code editing tools so you can work both visually in the page layout and in the source code simultaneously.

    Layout grid for table-based designs

You don't have to struggle with HTML tables to lay out pages. You drag and drop text boxes, images, and other objects onto the layout grid to develop a page. The layout grid is an HTML table that GoLive formats for you. When you want to tweak the table directly, you can convert the layout grid to a table and back again to a layout grid. (See Using the layout grid.)

    Floating box page layouts

GoLive simplifies HTML layers and DIV elements with floating boxes. You can use floating boxes to lay out all or part of a page or to show and hide images and text on a page. (See Laying out pages with floating boxes.)

    Sliced Photoshop image layouts

Many Web designers work in Adobe Photoshop to develop ideas and lay out page designs. Those designs were then converted by the designer or a Web developer by hand. Now designers can slice a page in Photoshop and bring it directly into GoLive. Using Smart Objects, the link between the image and Photoshop is maintained within GoLive, and each slice can be independently optimized for efficient image downloads. (See Working with a sliced Photoshop image.)

    Style sheet authoring

Cascading style sheets make your page text consistent and give you control over its formatting and presentation. Style sheets are easy to create in GoLive without the need to directly edit the style sheet code. (See About cascading style sheets.)

    Page templates and reusable components

Use templates, stationery, components, and library objects for consistency and to save development time. When you use page templates and GoLive components, you can automatically update pages linked to the templates and components. (See About site assets.)

    Form design

Visually design forms for user input and e-commerce by dragging and dropping form elements onto a page. (See Creating Forms.)

    Source code editing

Write and edit source code in the GoLive Source Code Editor. When you need to see the page layout and a section of code at the same time, split the document window into two panes to work in the Layout Editor and the Source Code Editor side by side. To quickly add a specific element or attribute to the page without opening the Source Code Editor, use the Visual Tag Editor, which contains a list of tags and attributes to choose from. (See Working with Source Code.)
