Understanding SVG and PSD variables

Each SVG and PSD variable has a name and refers to a specific component of a dynamic graphic.

You can set up three kinds of variables to be processed by Altercast:

    • Text replacement: to have the variable refer to a piece of text in the graphic. You can substitute a different text string to be rendered into the image.
    • Layer Visibility: to associate the variable with a specific layer in the graphic. You can supply a value True or False to cause the layer to be rendered as part of the generated image or not.
    • Image Replacement: to associate the variable with an embedded image in the graphic. You can supply the URL of an image that replaces the embedded image.

GoLive cannot tell you what kind of variable a particular variable is, nor what part of the graphic it refers to. You need to understand how the graphic was created and where variables were applied. The designer who created the graphic should provide this information. Ideally, the designer gave the variable a name that made the purpose and use of the variable clear. Examples of good names would include Product_Price, Background_Image_URL, Top_Title, or Show_Mountain_Layer.

Note: PSD variable support is not available in all versions of Photoshop. Check your Photoshop product documentation to see if your version has variable support.
