Naming files and folders
When you create a new empty file, GoLive automatically gives it a name. If you know what content that file will contain, you'll probably want to rename it. When you rename a file that is referenced by other files, you can update the other files with the new filename at the same time. For information on updating an entire site for a URL that other files reference, see Editing links and URLs sitewide. If you use a name for a file or folder that contains illegal characters as defined by the current filename constraint for the site (or all sites), GoLive displays warnings in the Errors tab of the site window, the Name tab of the File or Folder Inspector, and the Status column of the Files tab.
To rename a file: - Do one of the following:
- Select the file in the Files tab in the site window and then enter the new name in the File tab of the File Inspector.
- Select the file in the Files tab in the site window, pause for a couple of seconds, click the filename in the site window, and then enter the new name.
- If there are any other files that contain references to the file you renamed, the Rename File dialog box appears. To have GoLive automatically update the references with the new filename, leave the files selected and then click OK.
To check for filename constraint violations: Do one of the following: - Select the file and then click the Name tab in the File Inspector to view any violations.
- Look for the group Filename Warnings in the Errors tab of the site window. If the group is present, it will include a list of all files with filename errors.
- Look for a violation in the Filename Status column of the Files tab in the site window. The Filename Status column is not the same as the Status column. If the Filename Status column is not shown, choose Filename Status from the Show Columns menu in the View palette.
To rename a folder: - Select the folder in the Files tab in the site window and then enter the new name in the Folder tab of the Folder Inspector.
- Select the folder in the Files tab in the site window, pause for a couple of seconds, click the folder name in the site window, and then enter the new name.
