If you don't have enough memory to print:
Turn off background printing. |
If you're using a desktop printer, increase the amount of memory assigned to the printer. |
Reduce the amount of memory assigned to the application you're printing from. |
Turn on virtual memory in the Memory control panel, then restart your computer. |
If your document uses many fonts, open the File menu and choose Page Setup. Make sure Unlimited Downloadable Fonts is selected under PostScript Options. If you still don't have enough memory, use fewer fonts in the document. |
If the document contains complex graphics, remove some of the detail from the images. |
If you see a PostScript error message when you try to print:
Turn the printer off, then on. Then try printing your document again. |
If your document uses many fonts, open the File menu and choose Page Setup. Make sure Unlimited Downloadable Fonts is selected under PostScript Options. |
If your document uses many fonts, use fewer fonts. |
Add more memory (RAM) to your printer. |
If you can't print to a specific desktop printer:
Make sure the printer is selected as the default printer in the Printing menu. Select the printer's icon, then open the Printing menu and choose Set Default Printer.
If nothing happens when you try to print:
If you just turned on your printer, wait a few minutes and try again. (Some printers have to warm up before you can use them.) |
Make sure the printer software (or driver) for your printer is turned on in the Extensions Manager control panel. |
To find out the name of the driver, see the documentation that came with your printer. |
If you're using a printer connected directly to your computer, make sure the port the printer is connected to is selected in the AppleTalk control panel. |
If you use the same port to alternately connect to a LocalTalk network and a serial printer, the port may not reset properly after you turn off AppleTalk to use the printer. Restart your computer. |
If you're using a printer connected directly to your computer and you're connected to an Ethernet network, make sure that AppleTalk is inactive in the Chooser. |
If you're using a printer on a network, make sure AppleTalk is active in the Chooser. |
Check for status messages. To do so, select the desktop printer icon, open the File menu and choose Get Info, then choose Status & Configuration from the submenu. |
Note: If the Simple Finder is turned on, you need to turn it off (in the Finder's Preferences window, in the Edit menu) before you can do this task. |
Turn off the computer and printer, then check all the cables to make sure they're firmly connected. Also check the status lights on the printer. |
If none of these suggestions work, you may need to reinstall the printer software. See the documentation that came with the printer for instructions. |
If some fonts in a document don't print correctly:
The document may use fonts that are not available on your computer (for example, fonts for a script system that's not installed). To avoid this, change the text to a different font before you print. |
