There is a third variety, not listed in the FNA, Ageratina altissima var. angustata, which has a range of Central & SE. USA according to Plants of the World Online. The Flora of Wisconsin lists Ageratina altissima subsp. altissima, but this is not recogized by the IPNI or the FNA.
