How to differentiate related forms: Actaea pachypoda f. rubrocarpa is not accepted by the FNA, but is accepted by the World Checklist of Vascular Plants. This is a rare form of Actaea pachypoda having pink to magenta colored berries on pedicels 3 mm or more in thickness, in contrast with the related species Actaea rubra, which has bright red (usually) berries on thinish pedicels less than 3 mm. Actaea pachypoda f. pachypoda, the autonym, has white colored berries on thickish stems.
