Ethnobotany: No recorded uses by tribes from Wisconsin. At least fourteen Native American tribes have used this plant for a variety of ailments including stomach pains, diarrhea, convulsions, fever, and others. Several tribes used the plant as a food source and as a preservative (Moerman, p. 337, 1998).
