Similar species (if any): Rorippa palustris can be distinguished from other Rorippa species in part by flower size. R. palustris has flowers about 3 mm wide, Rorippa sinuata (Spreading Yellow-cress) and Rorippa sylvestris (Creeping Yellow-cress) both have flowers about 6 mm wide, and Rorippa sessiflora (Sessile-Flowered Yellow Cress) has flowers less than 3 mm wide. Rorippa sylvestris has slender fruits about 10 to 20 mm long and 1 to 1.3 mm wide, Rorippa sinuata has fruits about 5 to 12 mm long and 1.5 to 2.5 mm wide, Rorippa sessiliflora has fruits about 6 to 9 mm long and 1.8 to 2.8 mm wide, whereas Rorippa palustris has fruits about 4 to 10 mm long and 1.7 to 3 mm wide. Rorippa palustris is the most widely distribued of the Rorippa species found in Wisconsin.
