Users and environments

The Multiple Users feature offers four environments, each of which provides users a different degree of access to your computer.

Only the Owner can open other users' Documents folders.

      Environment   Description
Panels Users can see only approved items, accessible with one-click buttons. You can customize certain features of interface (large or small icons, for example). Files can only be saved in the user's Documents folder.

Limited Users can view the contents of the hard disk, but they cannot open applications that have not been approved for their use. Unless you approve access to other, specific folders, the Limited user can save items only to his or her own Documents folder and folders he or she creates. Files can only be saved in the user's Documents folder.

Normal Users can access the Finder and all applications on the startup disk.

Normal users designated as Account Managers can create, delete or modify all accounts except the Owner's.

When you create a Guest account, it is created as a Normal user account by default. You can open the Guest account and set it up as any environment you want.

Owner The Owner has full access to the computer and all the accounts. Only the Owner can install applications, set up printers, access other users' documents, and turn the Multiple Users feature on and off. There can be only one Owner account, but multiple people can use it if they know the password.
