Adjusting your monitor for accurate color

ColorSync uses your monitor's color characteristics and capabilities as the basis for color matching. For best results with ColorSync, you should calibrate your monitor.

Calibration lets you fine-tune your color settings and compensates for changes in color characteristics that occur in your monitor over time.

To calibrate your monitor, use the Monitors control panel.

Open the Monitors control panel for me.

Click the Color button to access your calibration options.

Before you calibrate your monitor, use the Monitors control panel or the controls on your monitor to make these adjustments:
Set the brightness to a comfortable level (make sure that the black border on the edges of the screen image is black and not gray), then set the contrast to its highest setting.
Select the highest available color depth.
Set the height, width, resolution, and position of the screen image.

After you've made these adjustments to your display, click the Calibrate button and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Note: If your monitor supports Apple DigitalColor Technologies, a Recalibrate button appears in the Color section of the control panel. Select the settings you want from the pop-up menus on the left and click Recalibrate to have your monitor calibrate itself. You can also set a schedule for automatic recalibrations by clicking Preferences and selecting the options you want.
