Inserting and removing spreadsheet cells, rows, or columns

Note: When inserting or deleting cells causes cells containing relative cell references to shift, AppleWorks updates the references.

Changing the size of the spreadsheet

To change the number of columns and rows in the spreadsheet:
1 Choose Document from the Format menu.
2 Type new numbers for Columns Across and Rows Down.
AppleWorks adds new columns to the right of and new rows to the bottom of the current spreadsheet.
You can't use this method to remove rows or columns that contain data. If you want to delete rows or columns with data, use the methods described below.

Inserting blank cells, rows, or columns

To insert blank rows above or blank columns to the left of existing cells:
1 Select the row that you want to be immediately below the new row, or the column that you want to be immediately to the right of the new column.
To insert multiple rows or columns, select the same number of rows or columns as you want to insert.
2 Choose Insert Cells from the Format menu.

To insert a blank cell or range of cells:
1 Select the cell or range of cells that you want to be immediately below or to the right of the new cells.
Select the same number of cells as you want to insert.
2 Choose Insert Cells from the Format menu.
3 Specify whether you want to shift the existing cells down or to the right.

Deleting cells, rows, or columns

    To delete rows or columns:
1 Select the rows or columns you want to delete.
2 Choose Delete Cells from the Format menu.

To delete a cell or range of cells:
1 Select the cell or range of cells that you want to delete.
2 Choose Delete Cells from the Format menu.
3 Specify whether you want to shift the remaining cells up or to the left.

Note: When you delete cells from a spreadsheet, AppleWorks adjusts the position of the remaining cells. This is different from deleting data or clearing cell formats, both of which leave empty cells.
