Customizing available gradients

A gradient is a fill pattern that blends gradually from one color to another. AppleWorks includes a default gradient palette with 32 gradients. You can modify several aspects of these gradients in the Accents window. Any changes you make also appear in the Gradient pop-up palette of the Tools window.

Note: This section is about editing the gradient palette available in the Accents and Tools windows. It is not about changing the gradient of objects or images.

    To customize a gradient:
1 Choose Edit Gradients from the Options menu.
2 In the Accents window, select the gradient you want to edit.
3 In the Gradient Editor dialog box, change the desired options.
Note: If the following terms are unfamiliar, the best way to gain an understanding of them is to experiment with the settings in the Gradient Editor.
To switch to a different gradient style, choose a new style from the Sweep pop-up menu.
To change the number of colors in the gradient, choose a number from the Colors pop-up menu.
To select a starting (highlight) color, click the first square and choose a color.
To select intermediate and ending colors, choose from pop-up menus for the remaining squares.
To change the sweep angle for a directional or circular gradient, enter a new number in the Angle text box or drag the solid circle in the Angle diagram.
To change the focus for a directional or circular gradient, drag the hollow circle in the Angle diagram.
To change the focus of a shape burst gradient, drag the square inside the Focus diagram.
To change the focus size of a shape burst gradient, resize the square inside the Focus diagram by dragging its handle.

Changes you make to gradients apply only to the Tools and Accents windows of the current document, but you can save the settings as a custom palette and use it in other AppleWorks documents.
