The Info window for every file folder in the Finder contains a Comments box. (To see the Info window, select a file, open the File menu and choose Get Info.)
You can use a script to get and set the comments for files.
This example script gets the comments for a file you drop on the script, then displays the comments in a dialog box:
Show me a script that gets comments.
