The cofactor PLP is a molecule that is synthesized from vitamin B-6. The enzymes that use this cofactor harness the energy from converting PLP to PMP. It is an example of a cofactor that has great diversity in it's function. The three examples presented on this site demonstrate only a fraction of what PLP can do. It is found in transferases, lyases, racemases, decarboxylases, mutases, synthetases and glycogen phosphorylases. All these functions show how important and diverse this molecule is, and it's importance in living organisms.
