Finding the IP address of your computer


    How you determine the IP address of your machine depends on your platform and OS.

To locate the IP address of a PC running Windows 98 or Windows ME:

  1. Choose Start > Run.
  2. Type command, and press Enter.
  3. At the command line prompt, type ipconfig, and press Enter.
  4. Use the IP Address number displayed.

To locate the IP address of a PC running Windows NT or Windows 2000:

  1. Choose Start > Run.
  2. Type cmd, and press Enter.
  3. At the command line prompt, type ipconfig, and press Enter.
  4. Use the IP Address number displayed.

To locate the IP address of a Macintosh running OS 9.1 or earlier:

  1. Choose Apple Menu > Control Panels > TCP/IP.
  2. Use the number displayed in the IP Address text box.

To locate the IP address of a Macintosh running OS X:

  1. Choose Apple Menu > System Preferences.
  2. Double-click Network.
  3. Choose Built-in Ethernet from the Configure menu, and click the TCP/IP tab.
  4. Use the number displayed in the IP Address text box.
