Working online or off line

GoLive lets you work online or off line as you develop your site. By default, a dynamic content site is in online mode. This means that GoLive attempts to contact the Web server whenever database or other site configuration information is needed. GoLive saves server responses in a cache as you work in on-line mode.

There may be times, however, when you need to work in off-line mode. For example, the Web server or the server with your database may be off line for maintenance or other reasons. Since GoLive cannot contact an off-line server, an alert dialog box prompts you to switch to off-line mode. If you do so, GoLive uses the cached server responses. This should let you continue to bind page elements and create content sources for databases and tables that have been used previously. If a database or table has not been used, you can still manually enter the names of fields, but no selection list is available, and the names you enter cannot be validated.

You can also explicitly switch to off-line mode at any time.

To toggle between online and off-line mode:

Click the Go Online/Offline button in the Dynamic Content toolbar.

Note: The Dynamic Content toolbar appears either docked in the GoLive toolbar or floating. Select Window > Dynamic Content Toolbar to toggle it on and off.
