Synchronizing files on a WebDAV server
GoLive lets you synchronize a site that you are working on locally and also storing on a WebDAV server. GoLive can detect edited files in both locations, resolve the differences in structure, and merge the sites so that all files are up-to-date. When synchronizing sites, Adobe GoLive doesn't compare the local modification date with the server modification date to decide which file to upload or download. Instead, when GoLive detects that either file (file on the server and corresponding file on the local platform) has been modified since the last synchronization, it indicates a synchronization conflict and lets you decide which file to use. For that reason, it makes no difference if the time zone on the WebDAV server is different from your local time zone.
To synchronize entire sites: - With the site open in the site window, click the WebDAV Server button
in the toolbar to connect to the server. - Do one of the following
- Choose Site > WebDAV Server > Synchronize.
- Click the WebDAV Synchronize All button
on the toolbar. - Click in the Files tab, then choose WebDAV Server > Synchronize from the contextual menu.
- Click in the WebDAV tab, then choose Synchronize from the contextual menu.
The Synchronize dialog box indicates which files will be uploaded to the WebDAV server and which files will be downloaded to the local copy of the site. Missing files are indicated by grayed-out file icons on either site. You can change the view of the files by selecting the Show Skipped Items option. Or, you can view your files as they exist on the server in folders by selecting the Show Folder Structure option. - Confirm the synchronization actions assigned to individual files. If you want to assign a different synchronization action to a file, select the file and click one of the options below the files list:
- Choose Skip
to exclude the file from synchronization. - Choose Upload
to upload the file to the WebDAV server. - Choose Download
to download the file from the WebDAV server to the local site. - Choose Delete
to remove the file from both the WebDAV server and the local site.
You can also cycle through the various synchronization options and select one by simply clicking the synchronization action icon displayed in the column next to a file.
Note: If you want detailed information on a file to be uploaded or downloaded, select the file in the Synchronize dialog box. The two text panes at the bottom of the dialog box display local and server information on the file, including its existence, modification date, and the synchronization action to be performed. - Click Synchronize to start the synchronization process.
In addition to the synchronization action options already described, the synchronization conflict icon appears by a file name whenever the file has been changed on the server as well as on the local site. You must then decide which of the synchronization actions you wish to assign to that file. If you don't assign any synchronization action to the file, it is excluded from the synchronization altogether.
To synchronize a selection of a site: - With the site open in the site window, click the WebDAV Server button

- Click in the WebDAV tab, and choose Synchronize from the contextual menu.
The Synchronize dialog box indicates which files will be uploaded to the WebDAV server and which files will be downloaded to the local copy of the site. Missing files are indicated by grayed-out file icons on either site. - Confirm the synchronization actions assigned to individual files. If you want to assign a different synchronization action to a file, select the file and click one of the options below the files list:
- Choose Skip to exclude the file from synchronization.
