About uploads and updates

For a first-time upload, the entire site is copied to the server. Subsequent uploads are normally updates that synchronize the local and the server-based sites. For updates, you have two choices:

    • Incremental uploads copy only new site files and site files with local modification dates that are later than the modification dates of the corresponding files on the server. (If both the server file and the local file have been modified and the server file has a later modification date, GoLive won't update the local file.)
    • Modified-item uploads copy only new site files and site files that have been modified in GoLive since the previous upload. For files modified in GoLive, modified-item uploads always upload locally modified files without comparing any modification dates between the server and local sides. So, a modified-item upload would even upload a local file when the counterpart file on the server has a later modification date. (If a local file has been modified outside of GoLive, GoLive won't upload the file no matter what its modification date is.)

You can also perform selection uploads that copy your own selection of site files. This method is useful if an update method causes problems--for example, if your system has crashed during an incremental upload so that the server has incomplete files that need replacing but the new modification dates of these files make updating them with another incremental upload impossible.

Tip iconFor uploading selected files or folders, you can also simply connect to the FTP server, then drag the desired file or folder from the Files tab in the site window into the desired location in the FTP tab. The file or folder is instantly uploaded to the server.
